A-S-K to G-E-T

The title of this blog
is a famous quote
from a friend of mine.
She is always saying it.

“A-S-K to G-E-T”

What does this mean?
Quite literally as it suggest.
In order to get something
you must be willing to ask for it.

I know this is a simple concept
but I can’t tell you how often
people do no do this.

My coaching practice
is full of people
who have failed to master
the most basic skills.

Asking for what you want.

Truth be told,
I have failed to do so many times myself.
Usually it is because
instead of asking
I was just “hoping”
that the people around me
would see I was struggling or stressed
and just offer.

The pickle with this method is,
if they dont notice, you are left feeling unsupported.
Worse yet, they DO notice but don’t know what to do about it,
you are still left feeling the same way, unsupported.

Never is the concept of simply
asking for help if you need it
more present for me as I prepare for
the Really Good Relationship 3 day Intensive.
Simple put, I cannot put this event on by myself.
I have had to A-S-K to G-E-T help
and because I did,
I have people stepping up,
showing up and saying “I got this”
all over the place
and I am so incredibly gratfeul.

So to my team of support
a million THANK YOU’s.

And to you, should you find yourself
in need of a little help yourself…

A-S-K to G-E-T.

To giving and receiving,
Beth

Do you ever forget to do things when you get busy?

That is me lately!
I am spending every spare minute I can
getting ready for my big event
coming up next weekend
that I am neglecting
many of my basic needs.

My husband has noticed this
and the other day
I emerged out of my office
to find this amazing salad
waiting for me in the fridge.

Just like that.
A healthy lunch ready
and waiting to just eat.

Romance is so often described
in classic terms like:
roses.
wine,
chocolates and
dinner.

But to me, romance
is when you stop and ask yourself
this most romantic of questions:
“How can I make your day?”

When you ask this question
suddenly a world of options
opens up beyond flowers.

Like salad. :)

My coaches challenge to you
is to surprise someone you love
and make their day.

So thank you to my husband Ben
for feeding me during this busy time
and making salad romantic.

To love in action,
Beth

Fast approaching is the May long weekend.
For you perhaps,
the official kick off of the camping season
and the un-official start of the work-as-little-as-possible season
as the warmer weather calls you outside.

Spring cleaning.
garden planting,
backyard projects,
and of course,
summer planning.

Yet despite all this fun and sun
relationship strain, tension and disconnect
can ruin even the best planned picnics.

Here are three simple tips to help
make this summer a little fun-ner.

1. Create your summer vision.

I am a big fan of letting things be organic, going with the flow and being spontaneous but NOT when it comes to visioning. A summer vision can be created simply by taking the time to really picture what you want your summer to feel like. Busy? Lots of travel? Lots of parties? Lots of downtime? Before you create your summer calendar, be clear about how you wanted to feel at the end of it. Your favorite beach is a great place to do this!

2. Put it in writing.

Spend some time thinking about what you want your summer to be like. Personally my vision begins with heaps of time off, lots of unplanned nothing days and lots of planned fun days. I create long extended weekends and things on my calendar that creates relaxation and slowing down. When I create my summer schedule I put all my fun, friends and family in first and then create focused blocks of work time after those are penned in.

3. Ask for what you want.

This is for you hinters out there! Do not hint, heavy hint or assume people know what you want. Ask! It seems that the closer your relationships, the more we assume people know what we want. Save your family and friends the stress of guessing and just tell them! Compare summer visions and align your planning along the things that overlap. When you are clear about what you want, you are waaaaay more likely to manifest it (especially if you ask nice). :)

Voila!

Three simple steps and
three more ways
so you can have
a super summer.

To summer bliss,
Beth

Ps
If you are NOT camping May long weekend, consider jumping into the Really Good Relationship 3-Day Intensive. And yes, preferred client rates totally available – just ask! ;-)

Now since it is Valentine’s Day
and I recently outed myself as a bona fide
Relationship Coach
you might be expecting
a relationship-type tip from me.

But not today.

Today I have a LOVE challenge for you instead.

Valentine’s Day is dedicated to LOVE
that it often confused with being simply about
flowers, chocolate and a special date night
(don’t get me wrong, those are quite excellent!)
but Valentine’s is more than just stuff.

In my book Valentine’s Day is for intentional stuff
that goes well beyond the cupid stereotypes.

Thus, I am issuing the following Valentine challenge:

Today, give UNEXPECTED love.

Because it is easy to give expected love.
Offer up the usual gestures
to the usual people
with the usual amount of effort.

But are you capable of more?
Today I urge you to give LOVE that takes a bit more energy.

Give LOVE that is over the top
to someone you normally you give “the usual” to.
Give LOVE to a complete stranger
who would never see it coming.
Give LOVE to someone
you have been busy being mad at.
Give LOVE to someone who feels unlovable
even, and especially, if that person is you.

Be unexpected.
Be spontaneous.
Be outrageous.
Be courageous.
Be LOVE super hero style today.

And let me know what happens when you do!

To love stories,
Beth

Maybe a knowing.
Maybe a ‘thing’ you know would serve you?

I have.

In my case, my resistance was claiming a title.
For many years, I have introduced myself
as a life coach.
True. Accurate. And safe.
No risk in that label.

But the truth is I am not just
a generic life coach.
I am a relationship coach.

But I have resisted that title
because I was afraid.
Mostly, afraid I had to have
a perfect relationship
to call myself that.

But now I am over it.
I realize that it is not about having
a perfect relationship
it is about having
an authentic one.

And that I have in spades.

And so I am dedicating 2012
to sharing all I know
about relationships
and the dance between
men and women.

Starting on Monday.

Join me on this FREE call
where I share
the simplest formula
to make connecting with
the opposite sex
way easier.

The time of year the whole world seems to be
setting goals
making resolutions
and swearing to “do better” this year.

I have been known to make MANY of my own
caught up in the energy of the new year.

Yesterday however I found myself
not wanting to set traditional style goals
and instead, inspired by a group of friends,
we collectively created a bucket list for 2012.

Not ’some day’ dreams but stuff to do THIS YEAR.
It turned into great fun!

Here are some highlights from our list:

Swim naked in a lake or ocean.
See a live concert at the Gorge.
Plan an annual camping trip.
Take a canoe trip.
Try surfing.
Learn something new.
Take a leap off something that scares you.
Learn a Gaelic song.

So if you want to set ‘regular’ goals don’t let me stop you.
However if the traditional way doesn’t jazz you up
may I suggest you make (or dust off) your own bucket list.

And should you need a bit more inspiration
rent the classic 2007 movie. It’s awesome.

To a year of (more) fun,

My daughter is a competitive gymnast.

What this means is she trains 18 hours a week
(yes you read that right- 18 hours every week)
and all that work is to see
what she is capable of doing on
vault, bars beam and floor routines.

Her dream is to represent Canada at the 2016 Olympics.

Now there is a lot of gymnastic statistics
to suggest that she will not get to that goal
but Gracie believes she can get there.

Yesterday she competed
at her first competition of the season
and had one of those days when everything goes right
placing 1st in her level and making the Winter Games team.

But this story is not about the podium.
It is about not giving up.

Because last year, Gracie fell and stumbled a lot.
She struggled with learning new skills on every event.
She sat at competition after competition
and watched her teammates go up and get the medals.

There was lots of tears.

Here is the thing I learned from Gracie.

There are days when everything goes right
and your dream unfolds right before your eyes.
You stand on your own podium of life and get the medal.
Moments to cherish for sure.

But the path of dreams are not just joyful moments.

Dreams are strung together with days of doubt,
days of pain and days of determination.

That is what our little gymnast is made of.
That is what all our dreams are made of.

So if you have a dream that isn’t quite coming together
may this be your reminder to never, ever give up.

Believe,
Beth

Well this week has been quite extraordinary!

Not only have I been over-the-top-please-don’t-stop spoiled
a new beautiful healthy niece was born into our family
and if that wasn’t enough,
I got to read the most amazing stories from YOU.

THANK YOU for writing in and telling me why
some free coaching would serve you.

The lucky winner is….Kelly!
So Kelly, check your email as to how to book yourself into my calendar.

I have to say, it was hard not to choose everyone who wrote.
For those of you who are not Kelly, I still have something for you.

If you believe that having some uber-support would serve you,
you can book a session with me for a special birthday-discount.
For those of you who have invested hundreds (and thousands!)
of dollars to work one-on-one with me
you might be a tad surprised at this price.

$99

Yup. That’s it.

For just $99 you can book your one hour of coaching
and get your personalized plan to feel, do or BE happier
into high gear.

Let me know if you want to take advantage of this offer
as I will be scheduling these special sessions
on a first-come
first-serve basis.

I urge you not to wait.

In deep service,
Beth

Greetings!
I know it has been awhile since I have written to you
but know that I have been very busy cooking up some new things
for those of you who would like to have yummy relationships.
More on that later…

Today, I am writing because it is my birthday
and while I know normally birthdays are all about receiving
on my birthday I like to do both – give and receive.

So in the spirit of celebrating all that I have abundant in my life
I would like to launch my first (possibly annual!) birthday contest.

Here is the contest:
To one lucky winner I am giving away a FREE coaching session
to launch something, pan something, un-stick something, shift something
or just plain old have a conversation where the sole focus is on YOU.

Here is how to win:
Write me a story about your life
and why a coaching session would serve you right now.
Here is the caveat – the story must be SHORT and yet COMPELLING.
Long-winded life stories are automatically disqualified! ;-)

Don’t hesitate on this.
Contest closes at midnight tonight
(when my birthday is officially over!)
Yep, serious-action-takers-get-the-prize.

Submissions can be sent directly to:

I can’t wait to support your dream!

To birthday presents,
Beth
