What dreams are (really) made of…

My daughter is a competitive gymnast.
What this means is she trains 18 hours a week
(yes you read that right- 18 hours every week)
and all that work is to see
what she is capable of doing on
vault, bars beam and floor routines.
Her dream is to represent Canada at the 2016 Olympics.
Now there is a lot of gymnastic statistics
to suggest that she will not get to that goal
but Gracie believes she can get there.
Yesterday she competed
at her first competition of the season
and had one of those days when everything goes right
placing 1st in her level and making the Winter Games team.
But this story is not about the podium.
It is about not giving up.

Because last year, Gracie fell and stumbled a lot.
She struggled with learning new skills on every event.
She sat at competition after competition
and watched her teammates go up and get the medals.
There was lots of tears.
Here is the thing I learned from Gracie.
There are days when everything goes right
and your dream unfolds right before your eyes.
You stand on your own podium of life and get the medal.
Moments to cherish for sure.
But the path of dreams are not just joyful moments.
Dreams are strung together with days of doubt,
days of pain and days of determination.
That is what our little gymnast is made of.
That is what all our dreams are made of.
So if you have a dream that isn’t quite coming together
may this be your reminder to never, ever give up.
Believe,
Beth

What a Great share! Thank you Beth, so many people need to have her courage, she will get where she wants to go!! Never Give up <3
Having just finished reading “Tuesdays with Morrie”, today, and now reading “What dreams are (really) made of…”, it reminds me we get to choose when we give up.
Something difficult is worth striving toward. Failing means you didn’t succeed, YET. Maybe we haven’t learned enough, or used our knowledge quite the correct way, maybe someone else simply had a better day.
Thank you Beth for the share, and being open to seeing what is inside all of us.

Beth,
So happy to hear it was Gracie’s day and all the hard work this summer paid off. All those challenging days cultivated the reward she so deserves! Wish I was there to witness it. Ah, Winter Games….a sweet, sweet reward.
How exciting…:)
Congratulations to our little (big) granddaughter. For sure Gracie is an achiever and her dreams will come true. She is a dedicated gymnast.

WOW!!! So glad you gave us this story and what a wonderful day it must have been when it all came together. Congratulations to BOTH of you and thank you for sharing. It truly hits home and Gracie – you are an inspiration for all of us
Thanks so much for the story Beth! Last week was one of those weeks where I fell off the balance beam, and this week I’ve benched myself LOL. Indeed it’s tough to do what you believe in… thanks for reminding me of something i well know, but often seem to forget… practice comes before performance… and there’s a reason I’m building something called a “Coaching Practice” =)
Thank you everyone for all your beautiful comments and encouragement for Gracie. I showed them to her when she got home tonight and she was amazed that so many people took the time to comment and wish her good luck! Thanks again. :)
Gracie is a very determined young lady who is an inspiration to all. I have no doubt that she will achieve whatever she sets her mind to. I also would like to commend her parents for giving her the encouragement and support she needs to make it through.
Kudos to an awesome family!!
