My Christmas wish for you…

Today is Winter Solstice.
Solstice, like any other new season,
is the perfect opportunity to release the old
and bring in the new.  I particularly love this
changing of the season because it falls so close
to the end of the calendar year.

As 2011 comes to an end,
I invite you to take some time to reflect on all the lessons,
aha’s and achievements you had and swim in the gratitude
of everything the year brought you AND taught you.
From that place, you can release all that you didn’t do,
meant to do and forgot and greet the new year with a blank canvas.

May 2012 be everything you envision and more!

My best to you,
Beth

What dreams are (really) made of…

My daughter is a competitive gymnast.

What this means is she trains 18 hours a week
(yes you read that right- 18 hours every week)
and all that work is to see
what she is capable of doing on
vault, bars beam and floor routines.

Her dream is to represent Canada at the 2016 Olympics.

Now there is a lot of gymnastic statistics
to suggest that she will not get to that goal
but Gracie believes she can get there.

Yesterday she competed
at her first competition of the season
and had one of those days when everything goes right
placing 1st in her level and making the Winter Games team.

But this story is not about the podium.
It is about not giving up.

Because last year, Gracie fell and stumbled a lot.
She struggled with learning new skills on every event.
She sat at competition after competition
and watched her teammates go up and get the medals.

There was lots of tears.

Here is the thing I learned from Gracie.

There are days when everything goes right
and your dream unfolds right before your eyes.
You stand on your own podium of life and get the medal.
Moments to cherish for sure.

But the path of dreams are not just joyful moments.

Dreams are strung together with days of doubt,
days of pain and days of determination.

That is what our little gymnast is made of.
That is what all our dreams are made of.

So if you have a dream that isn’t quite coming together
may this be your reminder to never, ever give up.

Believe,
Beth
