In soul celebration of weeding your garden…

Personal growth work is a lot like gardening.

I used this metaphor recently and
I think it pretty much sums it up perfectly.

Because when we dare to explore our own psyche
and our own limiting beliefs
and those, and frankly getting old, stories
we make about about ourselves, others and ’stuff’ that happens
we are not just making things better in our own heads
but we are doing work of the soul.

The ego – well at least mine for sure – likes quick fixes.
A magical coaching session that makes it all better.

The kind of conversations that leave you feeling
hopeful,
inspired,
motivated
and clear.
All in just one hour or less, please.

The ego is thrilled with such instant
and drive-thru feeling results.

But not all growing can be done in one conversation.

Sometimes shifts and healing and change happens over time.
This is the gardening of the soul.
It is patient, excited in fact to be digging so deep.

Today I had one of those such conversations with my friend, a coach.
Who illuminated a block I could not see for myself.

I wished for a quick fix
and instead got a homework assignment
that is going to take a while to make it a practice.

*sigh*

My ego is grumpy about this.
It wanted the quick feel-good of our usual conversations.

My soul, on the other hand, is delighted.

So faced with grumpy
or being delighted
I am choosing to go with the celebration
of my soul
and just do the work.

May you find yourself delighting in
your own beautiful gardening too.

Or at least choosing to surrender to the process
and trust that you will see those new shoots pop up. :)

To harvesting the fruits of your labour,
Beth

What a week off can do…

Every month I take a week off.
And it is usually the last week of the month.

No coaching.
No clients.
As few appointments as possible in my calendar.

And do you know what I do with all this free time?
Re-evaluate, re-assess and re-charge my batteries.

I work on my business.
I take care of paperwork.
I write.
I take long walks with my dogs along the river.
I book “exceptional self care” type dates with myself.
I do absolutely nothing.
I go for long lunches.
I take courses.
I do something with the courses I have taken.
I read.

I do whatever I feel would serve me, my life or my business best.

And at the end of every week, I feel renewed.
Refreshed.
Ready to wildly serve again.

As Martha Stewart would say
“It’s a good thing”

So I invite you to take some time – like a week. :-)
And then tell me how it served you!

To being “off” so you can be “on” again,
Beth

A quick way to move some qi…

So this past weekend I tackled the winter-is-over
clean up of our back deck
and after several hours of moving clutter,
tossing out garbage, wiping down furniture
and vacuuming dog hair and debris
I realized that I moved some serious qi
(pronounced “chee” meaning energy flow).
The benefits of moving stuck energy carried over to other stuff right away.
(Like the yard, gardening AND 2009 taxes done too!)

My colleague mary allen claims that if you are
feeling a little stuck, all you need to do is move 21 things.
Here is her soulful challenge:

Move 21 Items in your home or office.
That’s it. Yes, it’s that simple. You may be saying,
“Shouldn’t I be focusing on my work or relationship,
if that is what’s feeling stuck?” Well, yes and no.
Our environments are a direct reflection of our lives …
whether we choose to believe it or not. Find someone
in complete overwhelm, and we’ll find lots of clutter,
disorganization and mess. Find someone whose life is
rigid and structured and you’re likely to find order.
Move the energy in your environment…and by moving
the objects in it … you’ll move the energy in your life.
Moving items in your home can include BIG changes like moving artwork, rearranging furniture, plants or knick-knacks. It can also be small, subtle changes like organizing a pile of books, removing clutter from a closet, rearranging the pillows on your couch, or switching up the order of something on a counter or desk.

The idea is for 21 things to physically be different.

You’ll feel energized by the experience!

So it doesn’t matter where you are feeling stuck.

It is all abut moving things anywhere there might be stuck energy
and see what happens next..

An earth day minute…

It’s Earth day…step outside!

I invite you to pause today and go outdoors.

Not just to run out to your car.
Not just to grab your mail.
But a true pause.

See how present you can be for one whole minute.
Be in the now of the smells and the sounds of the earth.

And wherever you are,
may you feel gratitude
for whatever space
you stand in today.

Breathe it in.

You’re done!
Now go be inspiring
this world needs people like you on purpose.

The one thing you can do for your kids…

Last week I had the privilege of spending 2 days
with 2 incredible people completely committed
to having an extraordinary relationship.

Their dedication to this goal was awe-inspiring
because it is one thing to intend on having a great relationship
and quite another to take action to making that a reality.

They have one particularly important point of intersection:
a child.

I think most parents would agree that we all set out
to do more than just feed, shelter and clothe our children.

We want to breathe greatness in them.

We get involved in their lives.
We drive them places.
We read to them.
We play with them.
We sign up to be their sports coaches.
All good stuff.

But there is one thing that I think is even more important.
The relationship we have with each other - their mother and father.

As parents we are their first model of a relationship.
What that looks and feels like on a day to day basis.
How things get discussed and how fights get resolved.
If there is kindness, trust and r-e-s-p-e-c-t.

Here is your coaches invitation for this week:

Do something this week that shows your children
what an extraordinary relationship looks like in action.

Plan something, get over something, celebrate something, you choose.
Just do something.

Children are always watching.

To leading by example,
b

Is there a point to your pain?

This past weekend I watched the Kelowna Ski-to-Sea race.
It starts running up a mountain (in your ski boots) and skiing down

moving on to serious cross country action,
followed by muddy, snowy mountain biking,
insane speed highway road biking,
running through half the city
and ending some four to five hours later
by paddling like crazy across one cold and windy lake.

And for what?

As one tired looking team after another crossed the finish line
the question that is most often asked by non-participants is:
why on earth on these people doing this?”

Because they like pain?
Or for what is under the pain?

Because pain is a great teacher.

Whether you sign up for your own pain program
or whether somebody else signed up up for some
pain always teaches.

What you are made of.
How resourceful you are.
What you can do different next time.
What kind of mindset you have.
How much responsibility you are willing to take.
And heaps of other useful aha’s.

In other words,
pain is personal growth training.

The question to ask is not
how come I am in pain?
but rather
how can I use it?“.

This question is not for just you athlete’s out there
who spend your weekends givin’ er all you got
but for the rest of us non-athlete’s too
who experience painful “workouts”of our own.

To insights under the pain,
b

what to do if your goddess hat falls off…

Today I was sharing with a client of mine an experience I lovingly coined
“When I noticed my goddess hat fell off” and as we laughed about it together
I realized that others might benefit from this story.

So here it is.

Last week I conducted a private VIP event for a couple.
It required a lot of planning, prep and energy to deliver the experience I wanted my clients to have.

At the end of the two days I had given everything I had and was totally exhausted.

I arrived home and found my husband and kids having pizza in front of the TV.
I start hauling in all my boxes thinking my husband would of course jump up and help me.

(First assumption of the evening).

I head back out to the van and bring more stuff in. My husband keeps watching TV.

I started getting mad.

I think “Can he not see I am making multiple trips here?”

(Assumption number two)

I start slamming boxes as I bring them in.

On the third trip out to the van, it hit me. If I want his help, I can ask him.

And remember, I TEACH this stuff!

So often we want our man to just intuit what we need.
Like a woman would.
But the truth is, even if they have an idea of what we want they want to KNOW for sure.
Men do not like to guess what woman want.

So the next time you find yourself feeling upset over someone who you might be judging not meeting your needs… ;-)

Ask yourself this question:
Did I ask? ;-)

To relationship ease,
b
