do you know what you are (really) capable of?

I spent most of the yesterday doing three things:
on the verge of tears,
in tears
or wildly cheering for people I have never met.

Today I spent the day at Ironman Canada 2009.

For those who have not been witness to this race,

it is not for the faint of heart.

The three parts of the Ironman Triathlon are:

a 2.4 mile (4 Km) swim
followed by a 112 mile (180 Km) bike ride
followed by a marathon run (26 miles or 42.2 Km).
Serious stuff.
This is Ben, Grace and Jack crossing the finish line in 2007.

And, as I watched in awe of these athletes I realized
that it doesn’t matter if you finish first in 8 (or so) hours
or last in 17 hours (at midnight when they close the course),
all competitors get the same thing:
to see what they are made of.
What a gift.
What was the last time you got to see what you are capable of?

I got so inspired watching the race Ben and I started talking about completing
Ironman together in 2012 (the sun was obviously quite hot today…).
Time will tell if I can muster the courage to line up with the heroes I saw today.

However in the meantime, I am committing to living a bit more courageously.

More on that later.
Of course I want to hear about you?
Got a BIG goal you dare to share out loud?
Do tell!

In the spirit of Yoda,
There is no try.
Do or not do.

To stretching,

what dogs have to do with your success

Anyone who has had a conversation with me lately is aware of the fact that I have an obsession.
It’s a TV show call the Dog Whisperer.

Now, normally I wold be embarrassed too share this but this fabulous dog trainer
- Caesar Millan – is a natural coach.

I began watching the show to get some tips on training our new puppy

but now I watch it to see how he transforms people.
And he uses the same technique over and over.

His big technique? Energy.
Specifically the calm and assertive type.

Dogs are a great mirror to what is going on inside us.
When we are tense, frustrated or angry, they behave badly.

They cannot respond at their best when they do not experienced a “balanced pack leader”.

Funny, this is also true of children, spouses, relatives, friends, neighbours, business associates, customers and generally speaking, humans.

People and animals are always a mirror to our emotional state
*if*
we pay attention.

Here is your coaches challenge for this week:

Before you begin any encounter with anyone, take a moment and ask yourself this question:

what is my emotional state right now?
or, if you are really good,
what energy am I projecting?
Tense? Calm? Nervous? Sad? Scared? Peaceful? Happy?

You would be surprised at what might change when you do this simple exercise.
P.S.
If you are not sure of your state, get a dog or ask a child.
They will tell you right away!

To your success,

can you see your vision?

Inspired my inner cleanse – which I completed hurray! – I was doing some spring cleaning (I know it ’s August but better late than never!) and came across my daughter’s vision poster. The two of us stopped and looked it over remembering when she created it last February during a workshop she attended with me.

Kids doing personal growth?
Absolutely.
It was a spectacular thing to do with my child.

Anyhoos, here is the cool part.
She has manifested three of the things from her vision:

  • a silver cell phone (my old one she plays with)
  • an ipod (another hand-me-down that she listens to non-stop)
  • and a puppy (she received this for her birthday in April) – she had 3 pictures of puppies!

She is nine.

This inspired me to dust off my own vision board.
And of course, got me thinking…

How is yours?

A clear vision is one of the most powerful tools you can use to propel you from where you are to where you want to go.

If you think about it, good.
If you write it down, better.
If you create a visual image, magnifique!

If you don’t have a vision board, I invite you to get out your glue and scissors.
There is still lots of 2009 left to create some magic!

To being clear,

could you use a "cleansing"?

It has been a wonderful summer.
Maybe a bit too wonderful.

It seems virtually every sunny day has called for a drink, a treat or both. The result? Feeling mighty sluggish and not too babe-on-a-bathing suit-ish.

Can you relate? So many summer temptations!

So last Sunday, I was over at some friends house (more celebrating!) I hit a wall. It might have been brought on by my son who oh so lovingly said “mom you are so squishy!” but whatever it was, I said “enough!” (It was definitely post birthday cake though!)

Lucky for me, I had this epiphany at the home of two master trainers with Isagenix and in a matter of minutes, I had all that I needed to start my cleanse the next day. Thank you David and Michele!

Today is day 4.

I wish I could report that it has gone fantastic but the truth is I have felt hungry, headache-y, and crabby up until this morning. However this morning I woke up and went for a hike with my best friend and feel surprisingly, quite good. A good sign. This motivates me to keep drinking shakes and eating sans sugar, coffee and alcohol just a bit longer.

What about you?
Could you use a cleanse?

Here is a wee coaches challenge:

Pick something your life that is bugging you. An unfinished project. A bag of stuff you keep meaning to do something with. A closet that looks like a cyclone. A friendship that has been neglected. A garden that is dying. A body that is craving something good for you. A practice that has gone by the way side.

Choose one thing and do something about it.
Like today. Or first thing Tomorrow. Don’t wait for Monday or September.

Because we are always choosing one thing or another.
Regular action
or
regular non-action.

Either one becomes a habit.
Might as well start a good one!

To inspired habits,
